Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you were something else?
What would your life be like if you were a dog? Or a cat? Or a caged bird? Or a free bird?

Or have you ever wondered what life would be like in a different place?
Say in a desert? Or in a river? Or outer space? Or Antarctica?

Jenny Chase used to wonder what life would be like in Antarctica. Jenny used to have plenty of time to wonder about such things.
Why?
Because Jenny was a wonderer. She was a lot of other things too. She was nine years old. She was shy and didn’t talk much. She listened a lot. It’s quite unusual for a nine year old girl to listen more than she talks.

Anyway, Jenny used to stutter and it seemed that whenever she started to say something, by the time she’d actually said it, it just didn’t seem important anymore. Jenny didn’t feel important either. Oh, she knew a lot. She probably knew a lot more than she should.
